Intuitive Wellness

Updated: May 10, 2021

I believe in nourishing our own happiness. Intuitively, when we’re feeling a sharp emotion or even boredom, we reach for the foods that usually don’t nourish us, but rather, to satisfy our craving. Habits are behaviorally driven, but can make a huge difference in the way we see ourselves. Connecting the behavioral change to how we’re feeling in that moment can remind us of the value of that habit. When it comes to nutrition, I ask myself “what will make me feel the best in an hour, or even two hours?” After a long, arduous day, my natural instinct isn’t to reach for healthy greens, but I know by consuming foods rich in phytonutrients, I’m reducing inflammation, protecting my cells from damage, regulating my hormones, and allowing my immune system to be at its peak function. Reaching for fiber-filled foods will keep me full and satiated, and release bioactive compounds that can keep cells from turning cancerous. Prioritizing water, rather than soda or fruit juice, will reduce sugar cravings, facilitate digestion, and improve cognitive performance. Ultimately, aside from the changes on a physiological level, small habits allow us to feel the changes on an emotional level. By implementing these habits and feeling my energy soar, I feel more motivated to incrementally add on to these habits. Small changes may seem small, but they allow our bodies and mind to adapt to these changes on a long-term level for sustainable holistic health.
